There is nothing quite like playing a game of tag with a horse...

Well today Beau and I had a blast. He has such personality! After a good ride in the sand arena, I untacked him completely and let him loose. Grabbed a lunge whip and got him moving a little bit, first at a trot, then a canter. After awhile, I could tell he was feeling good! He started TEARING around the arena at full speed, throwing in some bucks here and there for the sheer joy of it and I could only stand and stare in amazement. This is out of character for a horse that is normally very quiet, sweet and willing. After a while, he slowed down some (a more controlled canter) and at times I would run up to him, which only made him speed up again! He was playing with me! It was too funny, and beautiful to watch and I felt honored to be sharing such a special moment with this otherworldly being. I only wish I had taken pictures of him, but I was too busy enjoying watching this wonderful creature and the connection we had. The late afternoon sun painted the arena in a golden glow, reflecting off the sand and lighting up Beau's light chestnut color so that he looked golden himself. His flaxen mane and tail were flying from the wind rushing by and he was holding his tail up like arabians do. Also when he would stop at the gate here and there and look out as if wanting to run free he was snorting and blowing hard. His entire body was tall and proud. It was a magnificent sight indeed. Being half arabian, when he gets worked up you can really tell!

When I could tell he was getting tired, I began kissing to him and he came over to me. We ran together for a few moments, two very different species, both with nothing but so much love and respect for each other. Then I was done. I got him some water, and let him graze on the grass peeking through the fence at places. Once he had cooled down thoroughly, it was time to feed him his grain, then let him back out with his buddies in the field.

How true the saying is that goes: The love for a horse is just as complicated as the love for another human being. If you have never loved a horse, you will never understand. ~Anonymous~

I am truly blessed to have this special boy in my life. The bond we have is unbreakable.
